Which forces reduce entropy production?

چکیده
A real pendulum with friction will oscillate for a while after a short push, but will eventually come to rest close to a location where is potential energy has a minimum. If the system is closed, i.e. without a source of energy, it will eventually stop moving at a location near a minimum of the potential, no matter what type of friction force acts on the pendulum. This ‘variation principle’ is a simple concept to predict the long term behavior of mechanical systems, even if the details of the friction forces are unknown.

Influence of inclined Lorentz forces on entropy generation analysis for viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet with nonlinear thermal radiation and heat source/sink
In the present study, an analytical investigation on the entropy generation examination for viscoelastic fluid flow involving inclined magnetic field and non-linear thermal radiation aspects with the heat source and sink over a stretching sheet has been done. The boundary layer governing partial differential equations were converted in terms of appropriate similarity transformations to non-line...
متن کاملNotes on Entropy Production in Multicomponent Fluids
We calculate the entropy production in a multicomponent fluid, allowing for chemical reactions and external forces that are species specific. Equations for balance of the mass of each species, energy, momentum, and entropy production are first formulated as integral equations for an arbitrary volume V with external area A and then reduced to differential equations. The treatment is rather stand...
متن کاملMultiscale Mesoscopic Entropy of Driven Macroscopic Systems
How do macroscopic systems react to imposed external forces? Attempts to answer this question by a general principle have a long history. The general feeling is that the macroscopic systems in their reaction to imposed external forces follow some kind of optimization strategy in which their internal structure is changed so that they offer the least possible resistance. What is the potential inv...
متن کاملEntropy Production of Stars
The entropy production (inside the volume bounded by a photosphere) of main-sequence stars, subgiants, giants, and supergiants is calculated based on B–V photometry data. A non-linear inverse relationship of thermodynamic fluxes and forces as well as an almost constant specific (per volume) entropy production of main-sequence stars (for 95% of stars, this quantity lies within 0.5 to 2.2 of the ...
متن کاملThe Impact of Entropy Production and Emission Mitigation on Economic Growth
Entropy production in industrial economies involves heat currents, driven by gradients of temperature, and particle currents, driven by specific external forces and gradients of temperature and chemical potentials. Pollution functions are constructed for the associated emissions. They reduce the output elasticities of the production factors capital, labor, and energy in the growth equation of t...
